Born and raised in the North East of England (like many famous people Ridley Scott and Sting to name but two), a place which I dearly love. Just down the road is the world heritage site of Durham Cathedral.
Work wise I cover many subjects and genres from fantasy and sci-fi to history, portraits and graphic novels/sequential art (comics). I use a mix of 2D that is both digital (Painter, Photoshop, etc...) and analogue (i.e. pencils, ink etc...) in nature to 3D software (Hexagon, 3DS Max etc...) to photography.
I can cover all stages of production from idea generation to story boards and final production, it’s probably best to think of me as a good general artist that can specialise if needed in any particular area.
I’m also a fairly nifty PC technician.
The Way I Work
I know my limitations, that is the first thing to say, however this does not mean that I will not push those limitations, far from it I’m always eager to get to grips with a new challenge that will give me a problem to solve.
I’m a competent modeller that specialises in architecture, I’ve never really got the hang of organic modelling as such so I’m limited in that area. This limitation has lead me to utilise other software that allows me to inject a bit of life into my work. Such titles include Poser and Daz Studio. Without such software my images would have a sterile, lifeless feel. And until I can afford something like zBrush (which will be sometime) that, I’m afraid, is the way it’s going to stay.
Once all the components are created they are all assembled in to Vue 6 Infinite where I create the lighting and environment. Any post work (still image) is done in a combination of Photoshop CS3 and Painter X while video/animation is done in MediaStudio Pro 8 and/or Mirage.
